Montana is America’s unsung climbing paradise. From the ice mecca of Hyalite Canyon to the countless miles of granite tucked away in the many ranges that sweep across the state, it’s not hard to find crags of all shapes and sizes here. Montana’s members live among the rarely seen, beautiful and pristine.

Matt Hopkins
Section Chair

From miles to mountains, Matt Hopkins has an extensive track record . Starting at age 18 he has driven more than a million miles across the United States hauling everything from cows to cantaloupe, as an owner/operator of his own trucking company.

Matt found time to climb along his travels, stopping in states where he made friends, and checked out the local crags including the rarely formed ice climbs of Western New York, to sport climbing at Milton Reimers Ranch in Texas .

He now resides in Bozeman full time with trips now extending overseas rather than across the country . Matt works with the Montucky Cold Snack beer company based in Bozeman as a logistics coordinator, while also working seasonally with the Bozeman Ice Festival held annually in early December.

Matt loves to get out and get after it whenever he has time, and has said to many in the local gym "Auto Belays don't make friends, let's go climb sometime!" Don't hesitate to reach out and see what he has in store for the Montana rock climbing scene .
