Craig Charnley -

Chapter Co-Chair

I have been a lifelong hiker, mountaineer, skier and backcountry adventurer. NOLS program graduate and time spent climbing in New Hampshire after college has informed my rekindled interest in the mountains of the West: trail running, trad climbing, and backcountry skiing are how I express my love for the outdoors.

As well, I volunteer on behalf of and encourage volunteership in younger generations to support environmental causes. Sierras and Colorado are my current playgrounds for this lifelong passion.

The mountains have been a second home. Much of my early childhood climbing centered in Southern California at Stoney Point and Joshua Tree. When my career returned me to these hills, I volunteered for a number of years with the Malibu Search and Rescue Team. But most of my alpine and trad climbing has come from thinner and colder air in the Pacific Northwest Cascade range.

My pursuits include trail running, sport, trad, and alpine climbing. Leaving campgrounds and crags better than I found them has always been the ethos I try to live by anytime I go out. Providing an opportunity to educate safety and stewardship have drawn me to volunteer with the American Alpine Club.
